Investments in Ruka

  • More than ten thousand m² of new accommodation space in Ruka central square within the next three years
  • Rukakeskus and Oulun Rakennusteho; one small hotel and two apartment hotels; will be sold to private investors
  • Lapland Hotels is planning two apartment hotels
  • Rukahovi will experience two expansions, plus a new "spa & sauna world"; for which there will be a budget of 20-25 million Euros, building to commence in early 2008
  • Rukakeskus and Lapland Hotels' first stage plans will increase the number of beds in the centre 1,500 to 3,500
  • The second stage plan from Lapland Hotels and Rukahovi expansions is still not completed
  • Within a 5km radius of Ruka, there will be approx 23,000 beds
  • The construction of the Rukakeskus hotel and apartments will commence next autumn, while the car park will start in July
  • The car park will be completed by the end of 2007, with new accommodation due for completion during 2008-2009
  • New accommodation will cost 20-25 million and the car park will cost the city 9 million euros
  • Lapland Hotels will decide within the next few weeks if the chain expands to Ruka
  • This is a two stage project (increasing accommodation beds by the value of 40 million Euros

Growth in Northern Finland

  • Skiing centers in North-Finland are expecting this winter season to be the most profitable skiing season ever, based on the beginning of the season
  • Because of the snow situation in South-Finland, Ylläs-Ski experienced an increase of tickets sales by 55% in the beginning of January, Pyhä with 41% and Ruka 10% compared to previous season
  • The number of Russian visitors has surprised all skiing centers in North-Finland, going more international is a good thing - all skiing centers say
