Attractions close to Ylläs

• Pakasaivo, or Lapland’s Hell, is one of the most popular summer sights near Ylläs. This fathomless pool at the bottom of gorge was a sacred place for the Sámi (Laplander) people in ancient times. A massive "Seita", or ancient stone altar, guards the way to Pakasaivo, and adds a sense of mystique to your visit.


• "Kuerlinkat" are two surging waterfalls in the Kuerjoki river, about 5 km (3 miles) from Äkäslompolo on the road to Kolari.


• Äkäsmylly is an old, restored water mill right by the Äkäskurkkio rapids, on the upper reaches of the Äkäs river. Äkäsmylly is also popular with fishermen.


• Äkässaivo is about 10 km (6 miles) south of Äkäsmylly, and can be reached by following the duckboarded hiking trail from Tiuramatala.


• Visitors Centre with natural history museum.


• Farm Park with horse riding and children's activities.


• Pallas- Yllästunturi National Park's scenery is dominated by fells surrounded by forests and mires in their natural state.
