Family Activity Week
We have created activity holiday packages full of fun and exciting experiences that are suitable for families with children of all ages.
These packages are a combination of escorted tours and relaxing days when you have the opportunity to explore the local area with its nature and wild scenery. We provide you with bikes, kayaks, fishing equipment and maps for cycling, hiking and boating to assist you with your adventure
You will be staying in one of our brand new traditional luxury log cabins. Designed for self-catering and well equipped with fully fitted kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes drier and its own private sauna. Our cabins are centrally located in the village close to the supermarket, restaurants and cafes.
Activities for the week
Bike tour of Yllas
Cycles are provided for your use for the whole week. There are cycle paths around the village and quiet country lanes for you to explore. An example of an excellent trip is to visit the farm park where you can see mini-pigs, donkeys, rabbits, horses, reindeer and other pets and farm animals. Entrance fee for the farm park is 5 eur (not included in the price of this package). There is also an opportunity to take pony or horse riding lessons or trekking for more experienced riders for an additional fee.
Nature Centre Kellokas
A short journey of 2 kilometers will take you to the Nature Centre Kellokas where you can visit the natural history museum with a film theatre that is suitable for adults and children. Kellokas has an information desk and a café. From the resource centre you’ll find information about wildlife and nature. From here you can take marked paths into the wilderness with numerous choices for all abilities. There is also an excellent path for children with fun activities on route. Half way on this path there is a shelter with firewood where you can cook a meal. For overnight stays in the wilderness you can use reindeer herders huts.
Enjoy kayaking and fishing
Kayaks are provided for you and starting from the village you have the whole day to enjoy the lake and explore the rivers. We provide fishing equipment and bait for you to fish from the boat or the lakeside. We can also arrange guidance to fishing in Finland from a local expert for a small additional fee. You can take a trip to the beach on the lake that is great for children with warm crystal clear water for swimming. On the beach you can sunbathe and there are conveniently located huts for changing clothes. Close to the beach there is an observation tower for bird watching.
Scenic canoeing trip
This relaxing canoeing trip starts by a minibus ride to the lakeshore. Our guide teaches you the basics of canoeing and then we start your trip paddling through the beautiful Lappish scenery at a calm and enjoyable speed. This canoeing trip is great fun for all folks, for the young and old, beginners as well as experienced paddlers. Fresh coffee is made by an open fire during the snack-break.
Year of the reindeer
A mini bus transfer will take you to the local reindeer farm. The reindeer herder welcomes you and takes you on a tour around his farm. You will learn a lot about the traditional reindeer herding culture while watching a slide show “Year of the Reindeer”. The reindeer herder has fenced in an area for closer inspection of a small herd of his reindeer, a great opportunity to take a photo of reindeer. Last but not least everybody has a chance to practice the suopunki = Lappish lasso throwing skills on a set of non-moving antlers. Coffee served in a Lappish Hut.
Tastes of summer night
The sun should be already setting when we start our evening journey through beautiful Lappish scenery. Fortunately here in Lapland the sun does not go down during the summer months and we can enjoy the magnificent fell scenery in soft sun light, even in the middle of the night. Our destination is a lean –to shelter with an open fire for enjoying the tastes of the summer night. After a real outdoor barbecue we raise a toast to the Midnight Sun on a luminous Lappish summer night!
In the event of bad weather we can also offer you transportation to the Saaga Hotel where you can enjoy your day inside at the indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, turkish bath, massage, gym, restaurant etc.
